The change is the law of nature and is inevitable. Nature itself has many seasons, like summer, monsoon, autumn, winter and spring. In this world with the time, everything has to changed and human being is no exception. The health of human being starts deteriorating with age. This process is slow and gradual so much so that the near and dear ones of aging persons may not observe the change and in most of the cases individual also does not accept this fact of life. With the passing of time physical changes have to be developed in the human being and will affect the smooth functioning of all the organs of body since it is in the interest of the individual concerned to accept this fact of life and mend / adjust the life style according to this changed scenario.

Environmental pollution, harsh sunlight and air conditioners, speed up the aging process. With the age, due to contracting of muscles and developments of irritable rest lines, wrinkles develop in the skin. Skin is also damaged due to exposures to excessive ultraviolet rays of sun. To reduce the effect of UV rays one should apply the sunscreen lotion. Colors have anti-oxidant properties since every person above the age of 40 must eat colored fruits and vegetables. Sprouts and drinking lot of water also act as a great detoxifier.

Aging persons must not put unnecessary physical and mental strain on their body. They should manage the activities according to their physical strength and stamina. Since health plays a major role in the lives of the elderly people as such to maintain good health they must: –

1. Do regular exercises.

2. Follow healthy diet schedule.

3. Do constructive work.

4. Keep positive mindset

Regular exercises

Regular exercises, like walking, light asanas (yogaasanas), pranayam and meditation are quite necessary to rejuvenate the body. Anulom bilom pranayam ie Inhaling the air from one nostril and releasing from the other and repeating the same process from the other nostril for ten minutes in the morning keeps the mind cool, controls blood pressure, helps in keeping the bad cholesterol (LDL) within the limits.

Healthy diet schedule

Following a healthy diet is a necessary step for the improved health. In daily life elderly people must take food from all food groups such as Vegetables, fruits, whole-grains, legumes and low fat milk products into their daily diet. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables can lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, and cancer. Whole grains are an excellent source of fiber. Fiber can help reduce your risk of diabetes and heart disease. Legumes are low in fat and are high in protein. They are also a good source of fiber. Soya beans and Soya milk are also very much beneficial for the health. Milk products help in building strong bones, reducing the risk of osteoporosis. The aging persons may also reduce intake of salt.

constructive work

Aging persons must also keep them busy in any type of constructive work of their liking and try to keep up to date knowledge of all walk of life. They can also play a very vital role in solving the day-to-day problems of life of their family members and keep them united. They should also participate in social activities and provide guidance as per their experience to the needy people. These things will give mental satisfaction to them and will make them more enthusiastic.

Positive mindset
Aging persons may not feel retired and alienated. Alienation is one of the main causes of mental disturbance; depression and can develop many diseases. . By looking forward to the situation they can put themselves in a positive mindset and if they are in a positive frame of mind, they will feel better and attract good things: better relationships and better health. Attachment with the kids and playing with them may also jubilate them. Attention of near and dears of aging people towards their basic needs and their physical, financial and emotional support, plays a very important role in the life of aging people and making them happy. Elderly people will be more happy and enthusiastic towards their life when the near and dies make the same reality that their guidance and experience is very much important for them. All these things will keep the aging people in good physical and mental health.
