You have a weight problem. It may have taken you a long time to admit that but you finally have. You are overweight. Now that you have accepted it you want to do something about it, do not you? But where do you start? Starting a weight loss plan can be overwhelming. You are bombarded with all of the "best ways" to lose weight. There is a ton of information available to you that will help you start your diet and lose the weight.

The easiest thing to do would be to take a couple of pills and watch the fat melt away, would not it? If only this were true. Unfortunately that is not the case and that is not how it works. Companies that produce and sell diet pills will have you believe that by taking their pillow you will lose all the weight you want. They spend millions in advertising to convince you of this because they will make billions when you buy their product. Do not do it! Educate yourself first. Here's how diet pills work:

There are different categories of diet pills. One is an appetite suppressant. These help control your hunger so you are not as tempted to overeat or eat between meals. If discipline with eating is your problem then these may be necessary to assist in your weight loss goals.

The second is a fat burning diet pill. How this diet pill works is by burning fat molecules in your body through a chemical reaction it causes. The problem is – it typically does not work! Diet companies will have you believe this to be a magic pill but there claims usually fall way short. Fat burning diet pills typically have caffeine in them. Nothing really special or magic about them. If you know someone that lost weight taking a fat burning diet pill my guess is that they were committed to weight loss and incorporated a sound diet plan and exercise. That's what really helped.

The third is a carbohydrate blocker. This diet pill works by claiming to block the carb intake into your body meaning it can eliminate calories that come from carbohydrates. There is no scientific evidence to support this claim. If you really want to "block carbs" learn what type of carbs and how many you should be eating through the day. This is a much healthier way to go about losing weight.

So those are the three main categories of diet pills. How diet pills work varies depending on what part of weight loss you (or the diet companies) are trying to target. Most do not work because weight loss is a multi-factorial issue. One pill will not do it. Think about that – if these pills worked why are there so many overweight people?
